Gao Shan Zhai 2012 Spring

This is our favorite Tea Urchin pressing from the first batch of early Spring 2012 maocha. This Gao Shan Zhai 高山寨 puerh cake is pressed from un-pruned 300 year old trees and has amazing chaqi that is almost euphoric. It also has great endurance, lasting for 15+ infusions. The wet leaves give off a sweet, light, floral fragrance, the liquor is a clear bright yellow. Look out for the ethereal huigan that rises into the nasal cavity. Completely hand processed according to traditional methods and stone pressed in Yiwu. Only 42 cakes made. Buy together with our 2011 Autumn Gao Shan Zhai for a vertical tasting.

Great tea!

Review by Serg
This is my first cake from Tea Urchin and I like it very much! I think Tea Urchin's description of this tea is really true to life. The look of the leaves, rich flavor, complex aroma and cha qi sensation -- everything is great. Aftertaste is so beautiful and long lasting. This is also a very clean tea. No smell of smoke or burned leaves in the cake. (Posted on 6/12/12)

a quick note on this gem of a Gao Shan Zhai

This Gao Shan Zhai undoubtedly possesses a wonderfully penetrating cha qi. I would certainly cosign with the description that it is near to euphoric, as it is part of what sent me racing to log in this review.

It is the exceptional nature of its huigan, however, that is its most notable attribute. It lingers and develops through a seemingly endless string of complex minor and major notes which accompany each inhalation and subsequent exhalation. It truly seems to never end...

It is a truly exquisite, and pure, tea. (Posted on 6/10/12)

A little goes a long way...

Definitely my favorite of this year's Tea Urchin teas thus far. Have had quite a few sessions with the GSZ and I find that using fewer leaves brings out a more balanced tea. I normally use about 7g to 100ml, but I think 5- 5.5g with this tea hits all the notes (top, mid, and low) and I too have found that this tea can go the distance.

This tea definitely has chaqi. My first session with it was in between Bulang area maocha tastings, and this tea held it's own and then some.

A great tea and something for the Tea Urchin to be proud of.
