A beautiful tea. I love Bulang; there’s something about the peppery acidity that makes me happy. The leaf is loosely compressed and has a sharp grassy scent. The undertones include some light florals and sweet aromatic wood. I warmed up my shibo and threw it in. I gave the shibo a shake and lifted the lid to intense raisin tones with apricot. The scents are sweet and heavy. I can take in some dark wood underneath a massive amount of peach. This was going to be a good tea. I washed the leaves and gave em a steep. The taste has a sweet character with some light bitterness, at first. The peppery kuwei rises up from the vegetal and floral qualities to nip at the tongue. The next steep yields some roasted vegetable tones with a consistent rising peppercorn. The astringency appears at about steep three with a drying squeaky clean tone. The dryness is tart and cleansing. The brew then turns into a unique drink with bright tones; I can pick up daises, lemon, and hay. The aftertaste is potent and lasting with a tart sweetness; alike a lemon bar. The qi hits mid session and it hits hard. A nice vibrating sensation the creates a tingling pulse up the spine. By the end of the session, I can feel my hairs rise. This is a goosebumpin’ tea! I really enjoy this one, and I can’t wait to get some more of it!

I drank this all day at work and it was amazing.
At first this was like a dancong which was interesting, but then those undertone floral notes vanished and the light sheng came through. Why should you try this though? Well, this tea kicked my ass. I fell out of my chair once at work today which was the first time ever as well. This tea is a strong relaxing tea. Drink and feel your eyes become heavy.
10 second brews. 90c. 6g.
Absolutely wonderful, but it is a different feel than the 2011 Bang Wei that had me GONE (Posted on 1/14/17)

Nice thick wrapper on this one. I broke off about 11 grams to brew in the Gaiwan.
I gave a rinse and a little sit time before starting out. This carries a nice sweetness to it.
First brew are 5 seconds. The tea carries the sharpness and bitterness of a Bulang tea without being as intense as some. Still strong and still punchy. The tea is almost thick and viscous that coats the mouth and tongue in a good way.
Kuwei is nice and it causes some salivation between sips. There is just a hint of floral in there somewhere. Aftertaste lingers with this one.

I should straight up review this tea at some point… it is like bulang light… as in bitterness but some aspects of florals and more subtle notes you don’t normally get from BULANG. Also delicious honey notes. This is one of my favorite teas, and I could drink it everyday… and need to save some to do that once it’s older and less tummy aggravating.
Anyways, when I was trying a sample of w2t’s 2015 colbert… the menghai blends made me think of each other. They have a lot of similarities… so I ended up having a show down between them yesterday. This is that tea drunk rant, after that Game of Thrones finale traumatized me:
For post 13… we have the Song of Water and Fire… The game of bulangs. You win or you doom cart.
To the left is our Geisha Snow, the Tea Urchin 2014 Bulang Beauty. To the right White 2 Tea’s champion: Colbert Targarian.
With a year of experience under her belt Geisha Snow has a much more refined taste. Future citizens of Bulang Shan will have a well rounded mannered experienced leader everyone can love. And at $99 for a full size cake, many more citizens can afford and enjoy her.
Fiesty and freshly plucked from the province of Yunnan comes Colbert Targarian. You can tell by looking at those big strong leaves that they can handle the heat of firey waters. While this champion is still green, the after taste endures. Colbert is a bit fiesty and still has those rough bulang manners. So he is a champion for those who already support Bulang-Shan ’ s claim to the throne, and is unlikely to convert any devotees to the path of Yiwu. Also at $80 for 200 grams, or $151.20 for a full size cake… This is a great leader this year for hard core bulang followers.
Both are great drinks and have show worthy wrappers.
At the end… I preferred Bulang Beauty… which pleased me because I really enjoyed Colbert but I already have a cake of Bulang Beauty to love and cherish. Based on what people say about aging, I’m sure Colbert will age better in the long term. It has a fuller body and bitterness… so if someone had money they should get both and enjoy them one after another :P

I’ve always wanted to try this cake – basically cause I think the wrapper is pretty.
Overall, a great example of young bulang. Sharp and bitter with floral notes of orchid and some lingering notes of apple skin. Probably not something I would drink in its young state, but still a solid tea.

- I think this is an amazing cake of Puerh. The bitterness comes on fast and strong, but fades into notes butter and brown sugar. The liquor is thick and leaves the mouth feeling coated but also refreshed. The aftertaste is long lasting, and is simultaneously herbaceous and fruity - notes of peach and honey. This tea brews a nice, clear golden yellow color and smells fresh and grassy. The tea has a subtle sweetness in the back of the throat (I think this is called Hou Yun), that builds with each infusion. It just gets sweeter as you go. I have tasted this tea 3 or 4 times now, and it just seems to get better and better. I have the feeling I'll still be tasting this tea hours after I finish drinking it. I'm not normally one to go for the bitter teas, but this is one amazing puerh. I think Tea Urchin knocked it out of the park with this one. Loving it! (Posted on 7/28/14)

- If my mind didn't fool me, this 2014 Bulang beauty is better than its 2013 version when I first tasted it. Nice aroma. The huigan is faster and wide spread very nicely. It also goes very deep down. The taste is sweeter than last year and complements very well with the bitterness. My only complaint is that the water is a bit but should improve with age. (Posted on 6/2/14)

Comparing last year's Bulang Beauty to this year's...
Rinse- colors were very similar sweet smell from both gaiwans. New has just a hint more smoke.
-1st steep. Obvious stronger tobacco notes on the new. Old has mellowed a bit.
-2nd steep. Old version quite sweet, back notes bitter, softens quickly. New version much more green. Roasted taste is still present. Hasn't had time to "equalize" (not sure if that is the word I am looking for, but much stronger on the heavier notes right now). Color is moving toward the orangish for the old. Color of new tea yellow gold.
-3rd steep. Hints of roasted sugar at bottom of cups. New tea a bit closer to burnt sugar, but still very sweet. Old tea increased steep times. Very thick soup. Dark. Sweet with bitter notes on back of tongue. New tea increased steep times. Initial sweet notes are more grassy/fruity. Bitterness is sharper. Smokiness sticks in the throat a bit longer. Color is very golden yellow. Both teas have great clarity. New tea feels like it is coating the tongue a bit more. Bitterness definitely a bit more forward.
-4th steep. Huigan more pleasing on old tea. Sweetness comes on a bit sooner on the newer tea.
Overall, I would say the extra time on last years tea has matured it and given it a more balanced taste. I think once this years tea gets a little time under it's belt, it should be quite nice. I like the fruitier top notes, but found they were buried too quickly.
