Wan Gong 2013 Spring

This is our favorite puer of 2013. Comprised of 90% early Spring Wan Gong and 10% Lao Ban Zhang and Bingdao, it is a unique blend of the best of the best. Exceptional fragrance of sweet incense, thick and oily mouthfeel, with an aftertaste of melon. Very clean with no harsh bitterness or astringency even if pushed hard. Completely hand picked and hand processed from ancient trees, these cakes were shade dried and stone pressed.

Steeping Instructions:
We recommend 7g of tea leaves in a 100ml brewing vessel. Use boiling hot water. This tea can be re-infused at least 10 times.

This tea is a winner

Early spring material from Wan Gong (high altitude Yiwu village located near Gua Feng Zhai) which is supplemented by 10% from LBZ and Bing Dao. The cake itself is beautiful – beautiful whole leaves which have been well handled and carefully processed. Smooth and sweet from the first sip with a light buttery mouthfeel. In later steepings the bitterness increases but certainly not in an unpleasant way. There is a lingering sweet aftertaste to remind one that this is primarily YiWu area material. Nice mellowing Qi hits after the third cup. These leaves are excellent and the tea offers a very appealing mix of sweet and bitter. The tea is a winner and I definitely must give it a high recommendation. Note: I was fortunate enough to purchase one of the last 200g pressings of this cake which reduced my cost. I just checked the website and it seems they are now selling only the 357g cakes. (Posted on 8/3/15)

Lacking in character

This is one of the more expensive teas at Tea Urchin. The good: the quality of the leaf is amazing. The color is a crystal clear amber that holds up to seemingly endless infusions. The tea is very thick and hearty. There is almost no bitterness. But it is lacking in character. I find the flavor is kind of dull, with no punch and little huigan. I wonder how a tea like this will age. It is clearly very high quality, but little flavor for my tastes. (Posted on 8/3/15)

Excellent sheng

A sample of that tea was given to me along with my order, and that was a very nice gift indeed. A very clean tea, obviously made from high quality leaves and carefully processed. This tea is not at all about strength, but rather about subtlety. The charming smell of the dry leaves gives you an overview of the peaceful time that you're going to spend with this tea --- and this is just smelling a small sample, I can't imagine the cake. The taste is incredibly delicate and gives way to a very pleasant and subtle hui gan. If I had to criticize something, it would be the presence in the mouth, which is not among the best I have encountered, somehow too uniform, playing with the liquor in the mouth is not very interesting as it can be sometimes; still the mouth feeling is very clean and certainly above average. This is a fantastic Sheng Puerh. It is very clean and smooth with a rich mouthfeel. The smell reminds me of a wet forest, with hints of damp wood and flowers. The tea itself has a refreshing amount of bitterness with notes of floral and fruity sweetness. It finishes with just the right amount of spice. I love this tea and would highly recommend it (in fact I've recommended it to a few of my friends who have since bought cakes themselves). An awesome tea from an awesome company! (Posted on 7/26/14)

Peaceful & pleasant

Nice, long leaves. Pleasant aroma and that wine-like flavor associated with fermentation. Smooth, no bite, with a tangy sweetness, slightly fruity. Wet mouth with some thickness. Not much huigan. Peaceful feeling. Very young and quiet. I like it. (Posted on 10/24/13)

A very good tea indeed

Tried the wangong today. A very good tea indeed. The mix of bingdao and a bit of LBZ improves the lingering sweetness in the throat from a subtle yiwu type to a more intense kind. If I had to, I would rate it next after your Gua feng zhai 2012. (Posted on 7/30/13)

A sample of this young 2013 cake was sent with my recent order. Wow one of the best young teas i have ever had . A great deal of care was taken to produce this quality.
